Skunk #1 clones are rooted cuttings taken from one female mother in our Skunk #1 line, the Afghan, Acapulco Gold and Colombian Gold cross that sits behind a large share of modern hybrids. The plant is 70% indica with a THC content of 26% and a flowering time of 65 to 75 days.
One Skunk #1, repeated
Skunk #1 is an old three-way line, and plants grown from seed show small differences in height, branching and nose. A clone carries none of that variation. Each cutting is a copy of the same mother, so a set of three grows to the same height, takes the same feed and ripens within a day or two of each other.
Veg time and the flip
Skunk #1 finishes at 120 to 150cm (47 to 59 inches) indoors, so it needs less veg than a compact indica to fill the same space. Two to three weeks from a rooted clone suits most tents. Flip when the plants reach about half the height you can give them. A clone is mature on arrival and starts to flower as soon as the light cycle changes.
Training and support
The plant builds a sturdy central stem with well-spaced side branches, which makes it easy to top, tie down or run through a screen. Top once in the first week of veg, after the roots have taken to the new pot. The flowers finish dense and heavy, so put stakes or a trellis net in before week four of flower.
Keeping a Skunk #1 mother
Skunk #1 has been held as a mother plant in grow rooms for decades, and one clone from your set can do the same job. Keep it under 18 hours of light, let it build branches for four to six weeks, then take cuttings from the new growth. Sterilize blades between cuts so the stock stays clean.
Outdoor timing
Outdoors, Skunk #1 grows to 150 to 200cm (5 to 6.5 feet) and yields up to 800g (about 28 oz) per plant, with harvest in the third to fourth week of October. That late finish needs a dry fall. Put clones outside only once the days are long, around 14 hours or more, because a mature cutting set out too early can start to flower and then turn back to veg.
