Meet Derry

Derry is the founder of Barney’s Farm, a traveller, breeder, and the central figure behind the early genetics that shaped the seed bank. In the early 1980s, he left Amsterdam for India and spent years studying cannabis at the source, collecting seeds, learning from local growers, and building the foundation for what would later become one of the most influential cannabis genetic libraries in the world.

His journey runs through the mountains of Asia, the back rooms of Amsterdam, the rise of Cannabis Cup culture, and the global expansion of Barney’s Farm.

A door opens on Haarlemmerstraat

The story begins in 1982, when Derry travels to India to study Himalayan cannabis genetics with village growers. By 1986, he opens Barney’s Coffeeshop on Haarlemmerstraat, where a small circle of growers starts to gather.
