Permanent Marker is a three-way cross of Biscotti, Jealousy and Sherb Bx, first bred by Seed Junky Genetics in Los Angeles. Leafly named it Strain of the Year in 2023 after it became the fastest-growing new strain on US menus. We offer it as a rooted clone only, cut from a mother we hold at our California cultivation site.
Why Permanent Marker is a clone strain
The plant that made the name famous was a single selected cut, and it was circulating among growers before the first seeds were released in 2023. A three-way cross throws a wide spread of plants from seed, and only some of them carry the purple color and the loud berry-and-gas nose. A clone skips that spread. Every cutting we ship is a copy of one mother, so the plant you flower is the plant we selected.
Effects, aroma and flavor
Permanent Marker is an indica-dominant hybrid with a heavy, relaxing effect that most people keep for the evening. The nose is sweet berry candy over sharp gas, with a floral, almost chemical edge that fits the name. The flowers finish dense and dark purple under a thick coat of resin, with bright orange pistils.
Veg and the flip
A rooted clone is sexually mature when it arrives, so the flip is your call. Two to four weeks of veg builds a frame strong enough to carry dense flowers. Top once in the first week or two and spread the branches, because Permanent Marker stacks tight, heavy tops and needs light and air through the middle of the plant. Leave headroom for the stretch after the flip.
Late flower and humidity
Dense, resin-heavy flowers hold moisture, and bud rot is the usual way a Permanent Marker run goes wrong. Hold relative humidity at 45 to 50% through the last three weeks, strip the lower third of the plant before the stretch ends and keep air moving through the canopy. Cooler nights late in flower deepen the purple.
Running a set of three
Clones ship in sets of three. Three Permanent Marker cuts fill a standard tent with one phenotype, so they stretch together, take the same feed and finish within a day or two of each other. Keep one in veg under 18 hours of light if you want a mother for the next run.
