Farmers in those mountains grew it for hashish for centuries, and much of modern indica breeding traces back to plants from the same region.
The effect is a heavy body stone with deep relaxation and a calm, euphoric mood on top. It keeps building for a while after the first few minutes, which makes it a strain for the end of the day. Most people find it pairs well with a quiet night in, a movie or an early night.
The aroma is classic Kush, earthy and woody with a pungent edge and a sharp citrus note cutting through. The flavor follows with sweet sandalwood first, earth underneath and a clean citrus finish. The smell is strong from mid-flower onward, so run a carbon filter if discretion matters.
A landrace shaped by a harsh mountain climate grows accordingly. Hindu Kush is short and bushy, with thick stems, sturdy branches and wide, dark green leaves, and it finishes at 80 to 120cm (31 to 47 inches) indoors with yields of 550 to 600g/m².
The stretch after the flip is small, which makes it one of the easiest plants to fit into a low tent or a closet. A single topping is all the training it needs, and a sea of green with several small plants suits it well. It does not need heavy feeding and rewards a gentle, steady bloom program.
Veg for three to four weeks, since the plant fills out sideways more than up. It tolerates a cooler room well, and night temperatures down to around 60°F (16°C) in late flower do it no harm.
The broad leaves that protect it in the mountains become a problem indoors. They form a dense canopy that shades the lower buds and traps humid air.
Remove the large fan leaves covering bud sites in the third week of flower, clear out weak lower growth, and keep relative humidity near 45% in the final weeks. The plant comes from a dry climate and is far happier in a room kept on the dry side.
Outdoors, Hindu Kush grows to around 200cm (about 6.5 feet) and can yield up to 1,000g (about 35 oz) per plant, with harvest in the first to second week of October. It handles cool nights and a dry, sunny climate well.
Persistent fall rain is its weak point, so growers in wet regions should plan for a greenhouse or rain cover. Plant out after the last frost and give it a sunny, sheltered spot with free-draining soil.
For the heaviest body effect, wait until around a quarter of the trichomes have turned amber. The buds finish fat and compact under a thick, frosty coat of resin, and cooler night temperatures in late flower can bring out purple and deep red hues in the leaves.
That resin makes it one of the best plants in our catalog for dry sift, ice water hash and rosin. Hash makers who freeze the flower fresh at harvest keep the most sandalwood and citrus in the finished product.
Dry whole branches slowly for ten to fourteen days at around 60°F (16°C), then cure for at least three weeks.

Store Hindu Kush seeds in a cool, dark place in an airtight container, ideally in a refrigerator. Avoid freezing and make sure they are properly labeled and dated.
Germinate at 70°F-90°F (21°C-32°C). Below 70°F can delay or stop germination; above 90°F can cause poor germination and increase the risk of seedlings drying out.
If allowed in your location, we recommend using the paper towel method: place the seeds between damp paper towels, keep them warm and dark, and check daily to ensure the paper towel remains moist.
Once germinated, transfer them to soil or similar growth media, making a small hole 5-10 mm deep with a match or pen. Gently place the sprouted seed root-down in the hole. Avoid handling seeds with your hands; use a match or similar tool to position them.
No! By carefully transitioning your seedlings from small pots to larger containers, you can ensure your Hindu Kush plants develop strong, healthy roots that will support vigorous growth. Smaller pots tend to dry out more quickly, encouraging the roots to spread in search of moisture and nutrients, thereby allowing for better management of watering and nutrient uptake, promoting a healthier and more robust root system and growth potential.
