The Gorilla Z strain is a cross of GG4 and Original Z. Our feminized version is 60% indica and 40% sativa, with a THC content of 32%, a flowering time of 55 to 65 days indoors and an outdoor harvest in the third to fourth week of September.
It is one of the most potent strains in our catalog, and one of the most productive. A trichome-loaded plant with high yields and a fast finish is a rare combination, and Gorilla Z has all three.
Gorilla Z effects
The effect is powerful and thought-provoking at the start, with a head high that turns ideas over before a warm, heavy relaxation takes hold of the body.
At 32% THC, this is a strain for experienced consumers and for evenings with nothing left to do. Newer consumers should take one small draw and wait.
Aroma and flavor
The aroma is sweet and fruity, with candy notes from the Original Z side sitting on an earthy, resinous base from GG4. The flavor follows with sweet fruit up front and a chocolate undertone on the exhale.
A slow cure of three weeks or more rounds out the chocolate and keeps the fruit from turning sharp.
Growing Gorilla Z indoors
Gorilla Z grows vigorously, with strong branches and a moderate to strong stretch after the flip. Indoors it finishes at 100 to 140cm (39 to 55 inches) and yields 700 to 800g/m², among the highest indoor yields in our catalog.
Flip once the plants reach about half your available height. Top in veg and use a screen of green to spread the canopy, which is the best way to reach the upper end of that yield.
Veg for four to five weeks and keep daytime temperatures at 75 to 80°F (24 to 27°C) in flower.
Feeding and support
A plant producing this much flower takes a solid feed. Raise phosphorus and potassium from week three of bloom, increase strength in steps, and taper over the final ten days.
The colas get heavy, so put a trellis net or stakes in place before week four of flower. Keep relative humidity at or below 50% in the final three weeks, and thin the interior so air reaches the middle of the plant.
Growing Gorilla Z outdoors
Outdoors, Gorilla Z stays manageable at 140 to 180cm (4.5 to 6 feet) and can produce 2,000 to 2,500g (about 4.4 to 5.5 lb) per plant. That is a big harvest from a plant of that height.
Harvest arrives in the third to fourth week of September, which brings it in before the October rain in most northern regions. Give it full sun, rich soil and strong stakes before the buds put on weight.
Harvest, resin and extracts
Harvest when most trichomes are cloudy with a small share of amber. The GG4 side gives Gorilla Z a heavy, sticky coat of resin, which makes it a strong choice for rosin and hash as well as flower.
Dry slowly for ten to fourteen days at around 60°F (16°C) and 60% humidity, and expect sticky scissors at trim time.
